The first Avengers: Doomsday trailer just dropped. It’s a lot.
There’s no hiding it now. Marvel Studios has confirmed there will be plenty of superheroes in Avengers: Doomsday. We are talking about the Wakandans. We are talking about the X-Men. We are talking about the Fantastic Four joining the party. And, of course, the original Avengers. They’re all in this mess together.
Plus, we finally get a clear look at Victor Von Doom. Robert Downey Jr. is behind the metal mask, looming over the destruction. He’s the centerpiece of the chaos before the Russo Brothers’ epic arrives on December 18.
What exactly is Doom planning?
Downey’s Doom doesn’t mince words. He tells us, “Something’s coming.”
It’s something we might not be able to stop.
In one of the first shocking beats of the Avengers: Doomsday trailer, Doom catches Thor’s Stormbreaker axe. Not with another weapon. Not with a shield. With two fingers.
He holds the god-killing axe in place and says, “Before this day is done, we shall be placed with an unthinkable decision.”
It sets the stakes immediately. The multiverse isn’t just cracking. It’s breaking.
A multiverse alliance
The trailer opens with a blinding explosion. Professor X witnesses it all.
Then comes the lineup. Almost everyone in the MCU is there. They’re trying to stop a series of intentional multiverse incursions. These aren’t accidents. They seem orchestrated by the monarch of Latveria himself.
The official synopsis calls it an “existential threat.” It puts three distinct universes on a deadly collision course.
Chris Hemsworth’s Thor doesn’t waste time. He demands the teams put aside their petty squabbles.
Why? Because they are stronger together than apart.
“You are far stronger than all of us put,” Thor warns his brethren. He reminds them of past sacrifices. If they don’t stand together, everything they’ve lost means nothing.
Who shows up in Avengers Doomsday?
The cast list is a character list from a comic book catalog. Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man arrives to add his weight to the fight.
Channing Tatum is back. He reprises his role as Gambit from Deadpool & Wolverine.
He runs into Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi. It looks like a showdown.
But the real surprise is Steve Rogers. Chris Evans shows up with long hair and beads. He meets Loki. He meets a Time Variance Authority agent.
And he proves his worth. He grabs Thor’s silver hammer. It’s a nice touch. It shows the tone is shifting. It’s not chasing jokes like recent MCU outings. It’s taking itself seriously.
Is Doom the villain?
Yes. And he’s dangerous.
He’s metal-masked. He’s monologuing. He’s stopping Asgardian weapons with bare hands.
The trailer suggests the threat is bigger than any single hero. The X-Men. The Fantastic Four. The Avengers. Even the mutants who have been sidelined for years in the MCU timeline.
Ian McKellen’s Magneto and Patrick Stewart’s Professor X are seen together. Finally.
It’s a cavalcade of heroes. A desperate last stand against a mad monarch.
When does it drop?
The Russo Brothers are behind the camera. The budget is reportedly $400 million.
That’s a lot of CGI. That’s a lot of actors on set.
