Strap in.
You can finally book that interstellar ticket to Pandora.
Disney just confirmed Avatar: Fire and Ash drops on Disney+ on June 28, 2024.
Summer vibes included.
Can’t wait?
Digital copies are available right now. Or you could wait until May 28, when it lands on 4K UHD Blu-ray and DVD. If you prefer plastic media that’s your call.
The plot? Jake and Neytiri are still hurting from recent losses.
They run into the Ash People. A new Na’vi tribe. Led by Varang, who sounds aggressive, fiery, dangerous. Conflict escalates. Morality gets gray.
The movie hit theaters on Dec. 17.
It made $1.641 billion.
That’s a lot of money.
The budget was reportedly $400M. Add marketing, maybe $250M more. Then cut Disney and theaters a check.
Did it print a tidy profit?
Probably. But the returns didn’t match the first two. Not quite.
James Cameron is still pushing. Avatar 4 and 5 exist in some form. He’s even mentioned novels if the films don’t work. A backup plan for the magnum opus.
Will the sequels happen?
Dec. 2029.
Then Dec. 2032.
Those dates sit on the studio calendar.
Empty slots. Waiting.
“It’s still very much on the table,” says the director, sort of.
Are we done with the blue guys?
Cameron’s attention wanders sometimes. Alien. Terminator. Old loves.
Sam Worthington is there. So is Zoe Saldaña.
Kate Winslet too. The cast is massive. The streaming release is set.
June 24th.
We’ll see if the magic holds. Or if we finally look elsewhere.
