Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Trailer Reveals Gritty New Series

2

The upcoming Star Wars series, Maul – Shadow Lord, is set to deliver a darker, more brutal take on the universe, as showcased in its recently released second trailer. The show, starring Sam Witwer as Darth Maul, will fill a previously unexplored gap in the Star Wars timeline: the period between the Siege of Mandalore and his appearance in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Filling the Narrative Gap

The series will focus on Maul’s clandestine buildup of the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate. The gritty art style blends Claymation-esque visuals with live-action, creating a starkly different aesthetic from previous Star Wars animations. The trailer depicts violent scenes, suggesting a darker, slasher-inspired tone.

Cast and Release Schedule

Maul – Shadow Lord premieres on April 6 with a two-episode launch, followed by weekly releases for the remaining eight episodes. Gideon Adlon co-stars as Jedi Padawan Devon Izara, and Dennis Haysbert plays Master Eeko-Dio Daki, the Jedi running from the dark side. Wagner Moura and Richard Ayoade also feature as Captain Brander Lawson and his droid partner, Two-Boots, respectively.

Imperial Oversight

The series unfolds under the watchful eyes of Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader, hinting at potential confrontations as the Empire expands. While Season 2 plans remain unconfirmed, the creative team seems to be preparing for potential continuation, especially given the recent shift toward movie-focused Star Wars projects.

Maul – Shadow Lord promises a visceral, compelling exploration of the galaxy’s criminal underworld, offering a fresh perspective on a beloved villain’s shadowy exploits.
