Holy Assumption Monastery is one of the oldest Orthodox monastery in Crimea, it is located in a picturesque gorge Maryam-Dere. The monastery was founded by Greek monks - ikonopochitatelyami the late VIII-IX centuries. The monks were in the Crimean locations, after fleeing from the persecution of the iconoclasts of Byzantium in 754 years. Already in the Crimea, the monks began to settle in the mountains, creating a cave monasteries. One of them, and became the Holy Dormition Monastery, according to legend right on the cliffs of the people was the icon of the Mother of God, which was found by local shepherd. Later this place was built a temple, where, and then put the miraculous icon. This phenomenon has happened on the day of the Dormition of the Mother of God on August 15, which is why the monastery is called the Assumption. He is survived even under the rule of the Crimean khans, and the monks at the time received from them a solid financial support. From the 15th century, after the principality Theodoro was captured by the Turks, the monastery became the chief cent of Orthodoxy in Crimea.

In the Holy Dormition monastery was the residence of the Metropolitan of the Diocese of Gotha, and in times of Turkish rule, the monastery was a center of spiritual life of all Christians. Orthodox monastery existed along the capital of the Crimean Khanate until 1778. On April 23 this year, Metropolitan Ignatius, was very concerned about the extinction of Christianity and the convening of the Assumption Church Christians urged them to leave the territory of the Crimean Khanate, and by his command of about 32,000, which were guarded by soldiers of Alexander Suvorov moved to the land in the Sea of Azov. Immigrants from the Crimea was founded the city of Mariupol, where they erected the Church of the Dormition and there put an icon of the Mother of God. The monastery was abandoned and only a single Greek monk went to pray at the Church of the Holy Virgin. Since the mid-19th century, in the Crimea, a gradual revival of Christian monasteries. First, after the restoration of Dormition Skete was opened, there flocked from all over the peninsula Orthodox believers. By the early 20th century monastery of the Assumption was an impressive complex, which consisted of five churches, chapels, monasteries and other buildings, the device wipers on car not included in their number. But despite that in 1921 the clergy of the monastery have been accused of counterrevolutionary activities and, therefore, the monastery was closed by the Bolsheviks. All the relics of the monastery church was confiscated, and the building of the monastery fell into disrepair and eventually was destroyed. But in recent decades, the monastery was restored and in 1993 established a monastery.
